CPD (Continuous Professional Development) =
Practice Appraisal (EPP) + Continuous Medical Education (CME)
Mandatory for MD’s since 2005
EPP expresses the relevance of practices and skills, CME updates and enhances them.
This regulation aims at improving healthcare quality and safety and contributes
to patients’ improved condition.
The INTS EPP scheme for transfusion technology and medicine was approved by the
High Health Authority (HAS) in March 2006.
The INTS CME schemes
were approved in May 2007 by National Councils for Continuing Medical Education
(CNFMC).
Since July 2009
within its streamlining reform of hospitals (HPST), the French Ministry of Public
Health set forth the ‘Continuous Professional Development’ (CPD) concept
encompassing practice appraisal (EPP), knowledge enhancement, improvement of healthcare
quality and safety, consideration of public health priorities and medical-driven
control on health expenditures.
CPD is currently mandatory for MD's, soon to be technicians and nurses.
